The Kevils Story
Kevils Speed Shop was founded by Kev Hill in 2010. Based in Paignton, Devonon the stretch of southwest England known as the English Riviera—the workshop initially made its name building custom BMW boxers.
Kevils cut its teeth on classic airheads, eventually completing more than 100 builds. For several years the workshop was exceptionally busy, creating motorcycles to order and exporting them to customers around the world.
The international custom scene has changed since then. Most countries now have talented homegrown builders of their own, so Kev has shifted his attention toward newer machinery, particularly BMW’s R nineT platform.
When the R nineT was introduced in 2014, BMW Motorrad UK invited Kev to customise one for its stand at Motorcycle Live, held annually at Birmingham’s NEC. Since completing that first commission, Kevils has built approximately 20 custom R nineTs, alongside several Triumph and Harley-Davidson conversions.
The business has continued to evolve. With the UK economy presenting fresh challenges, Kev has transformed the workshop into something more than a traditional motorcycle shop. It has become a destination where customers can view custom bikes while enjoying freshly prepared burgers and breakfasts from the Kevils Kitchen street-food van.
It makes for an unusual combination, but motorcycles and burgers seem to work rather well together.
